Perkins School for the Blind

The Greenhouse

At Perkins, I spent most of my time working alongside the volunteer director, Lisa Mosca, in the greenhouse. Although I had little to no gardening experience, I was able to assist with potting and organizing plants in preparation for the annual Perkins Plant Sale. I would come in on Mondays and Fridays for a few hours at a time to help Lisa transfer plants into more appealing pots that could be sold to customers. Perkins is a nonprofit organization, so events like the Plant Sale are incredibly important for supporting the business and helping with funding. I enjoyed planting and found it to be a relaxing activity. I know I will continue planting on my own time, and I hope to volunteer at Perkins again in the future.

Office of Advancement

Alongside my work in the garden, I helped the Senior Director of Annual Giving, Chanel Mazzone, prepare gifts for donors. This included hand-writing thank-you notes to Perkins donors, packaging student artwork, and organizing gifts for events hosted by Perkins. I enjoyed helping with these tasks because they added a personal touch to the gifts, and I found the work both relaxing and rewarding.
